Perhaps the most familiar dolphin to humans, the common bottlenose dolphin swims in waters around the world. These charismatic creatures inhabit many diverse ecosystems, ranging from inshore estuarine areas to the pelagic environs of the open ocean.
They are social animals and often intermingle with pods of whales and other dolphins. Sadly, bottlenose dolphins face a variety of threats like entanglement in ocean plastics or fishing gear, in which they are also entangled and often drown as incidental bycatch.
