Stingrays are bottom dwelling creatures that prefer sandy environments around reefs where prey is abundant. They cover themselves with sand to hide from predators or ambush prey. They sport a serrated venomous barb on their tail, which they whip at threats to defend themselves. However, that tail is no defense from fishing pressure and habitat loss.
Through your symbolic adoption of a stingray, you will support Oceana’s work to protect habitat and implement responsible fishing practices that would protect these incredible creatures from overfishing and help reduce bycatch.
