These stunning sea creatures pack a punch! Like most jellyfish, Chrysaora, commonly known as sea nettles can deliver a nasty sting causing burning sensations, blisters, and more! They do a lot more than sting, however-- these jellyfish play an important role in marine food webs. For example, on the Pacific coast of North America, their spring and summer blooms are an important food source for leatherback sea turtles while large sea nettle blooms can affect Chinook salmon runs returning to the Columbia River by outcompeting the smaller fish that Chinook salmon prey upon.
