Humpback Whales are truly travelers of the open ocean, undertaking great seasonal migrations of over 5,000 miles between their tropical breeding grounds and the northern latitudes where they prefer to feed. The courtship rituals of humpback whales have been observed rarely by humans, and many mysteries remain about these majestic cetaceans.

Today, humpback whales are still recovering from the devastating effects of last century’s commercial whaling. While humpbacks no longer face threats from hunting, they are vulnerable to entanglement and boat strikes, which can lead to injury and death.
