Widely recognized as one of the ocean's top apex predators, great white sharks are solitary, intelligent animals. They primarily rely on their keen sense of smell to track down a meal, pursuing large prey like seals and dolphins and catching them after short, fast chases.
But even these great predators are considered vulnerable thanks to human-made threats like shark finning. With fins from as many as 73 million sharks ending up in the international shark fin trade every year, the future of this species remains uncertain.
When you make a symbolic adoption, your donation helps power Oceana’s campaigns to protect these incredible animals from threats like bycatch and shark finning, while also helping our oceans, sharks, and other animals thrive.
