One of seven sea turtle species, green sea turtles are iconic as the only sea turtle species that eat mostly plants, with adults feeding primarily on algae and seagrasses. The largest of the hard-shelled sea turtles, green sea turtles spend most of their life traveling, yet females return to the beach where they were born to lay their eggs.
But green sea turtles, along with their relatives, are in trouble! With six of the seven sea species of sea turtles endangered or threatened, these majestic animals need urgent protection. Green sea turtles face such a vast array of threats that the future of this species is bleak—but there is hope!
